ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial on On Wednesday, it was noted that there is no need to terminate the amendments made to the Law on NAB, since the court also more options and it was a viewing improvement in the laws.
He noted that society is suffering from a disease of corruption and there should be a balance between work for public advantages and use of personal advantages. Trinomial bench led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial listened to the petition of PTI CEO Imran Khan against amendments in NAB laws.
counsel of federal government Mahdom Ali Khan told the court that 159 members of in house voted in service of Amendments to NAB. Main justice noted that the question was whether attendance of opposition at the time of legislation was needed.
The CJP noted that the courts are not a forum for resolve political conflicts, saying whether it will increase conflicts if the courts start taking decision on controversial cases.
He further said that it was also political dispute in this case and the question was that how the court will uphold and defend the constitution.
Main justice said the constitution is in force for nation and she also it was necessary to consider what the court could reach in this case. public office holders were also accountable, he said, adding that anti-corruption laws have remained intact since creation of Pakistan.
CJP said we don’t have to view in social or political problems adding that trust was the focus of all questions and doctrines of trust was a must for public office.
the judges were also the keeper of public trust and accountability, Judge Bandial noted. He said the court trusted in parliament, but people had confidence on judicial branch.
Judge Mansour Ali Shah asked if there was a precedent in which a Member of Parliament challenged any legislation.
The lawyer said he didn’t know about such an example in in past where member parliament challenged the law. He said that Imran Khan was not only a member of parliament, but also also a former prime minister.
He said that the court should also trust parliament and politicians.
Further hearing of The case was then adjourned until Thursday, January 12.
